Shopify, a
public company owned in majority by Fidelity Investments of Boston, is chosen to host first online store to
benefit recovery from and awareness of the crushing disease of Eating Disorder.
Frank M Rapoport, Esq,,
Founder of Sam Sara Gear, explained today at the inception of National Eating
Disorders Awareness Week :
After searching
long and hard I chose Shopify’s
innovative web platform to bring
awareness of Eating Disorders. SamSara Gear’s store pays tribute to, and is in
memory of my daughter, Alexandra Rapoport who died by suicide in 2016 after
suffering for decades. She loved her time in the Himalayas which brought her much
peace and harmony to her struggle. The handmade, organic and fair-trade
clothing is part of a welcoming closet of body positive, colorful clothing that
woman can embrace during their journey to recovery. Shopify is a no-nonsense eCommerce platform that allows me seamlessly
to retail these beautiful products. Partial proceeds benefit the Heart Your Body Charitable Trust,
@OvercomeED, that awards scholarships for best essays on body image and
supports ground breaking medical research into solutions for Eating Disorders.
Why Spotlight on ED
Awareness & Recovery?
ED has the highest suicide of all mental illnesses.
Not enough is known about causes or treatment.
So many women and men are ravaged by ED. It's not, as some doctors
believe, " a white girl’s disease." Plenty of men are now suffering.
ED attacks and destroys your core, you self and body image,
your hope
ED can manifest as bulimia (overeating and expulsion),
anorexia(starvation) or a pin ball combination of both.
ED is about fear.
